Urticaria pigmentosa

Urticaria pigmentosa is the most common form and is characterized by reddish-brown macules, oval or round, papules or plaques ranging in number of one thousand. Urticaria is also known as hives. This is a temporary swelling of the skin, caused by a localized collection of fluid in the dermis due to the leakage of blood vessels.

Urticaria diagnosis and testing

There are two tests commonly used to diagnose of urticaria pigmentosa. First there is a urine test that looks for elevated levels of histamine in the system. The high histamine is the cause of the root of urticaria pigmentosa. Second, a skin biopsy may be performed to confirm the presence of mast cells that are increased in patients with urticaria pigmentosa.

Treatment of hives (urticaria) - tips and treatment:

  • The suppressive treatment of urticaria is performed by administering antihistaminic drugs. The dose and frequency should be adjusted to give proportionate insurance for 24 hours.
  • All these drugs cause varying degrees of somnolence, thus driving and machinery operation and other work requiring mental alertness should be avoided, while undergoing treatment.
  • Urticaria is sensitive to oral antihistamines and may need to be treated with injections of adrenaline or steroids especially for patients complaining of a sensation of obstruction in the throat that occurs because of swelling in the respiratory passage.

Urticaria pigmentosa (mastocytosis)

Adults with severe symptoms of urticaria pigmentosa are much more difficult task for doctors. The first order of treatment is to relieve symptoms such as diarrhea dangerous. Once these symptoms are under control the doctor decide which medications are best for treating the disease itself. It is an entity quite different. It is a proliferation of mast cells in the dermis (in children) and in bones and organs hematopoeitic (adult). Urticarial turgor appears after vigorous friction skin pigment spots.
