Urticaria treatment


        The treatment of uncomplicated urticaria usually requires antihistamines (treatment of allergy). Some of them cause drowsiness and require special precautions, especially to avoid driving.

Treatment of chronic urticaria (lasting more than 6 weeks)

       The treatment of hives may require treatment with antihistamines during several months. In addition, it is always advisable to avoid the trigger hives. In addition to the oral treatment, it may be useful to apply talc directly on injuries. This does not hives. In case of ineffectiveness of antihistamine treatment, do not hesitate to change it. A simple antihistamine drug may be useful.

Urticaria treatment tips

        When the cause is known, removing it involves rule recovery. When the cause is unknown, it is necessary only a symptomatic treatment. At the local level, we can reduce the itching by baths starch, oat bran, water and vinegar. Local steroids are dangerous and unnecessary. Antihistamines creams (promethazine) must be abandoned because they cause eczema and photo sensitivity. In general, antihistamines are the primary products. Local steroids compete with them at the level of H1 or H2 receptors. The anti-H1 antihistamines are used in the treatment of urticaria. Other products are less used:

  • The inhibitors of the synthesis of histamine (Hypostamine);
  • Inhibitors of degranulation of mast:
  • Sodium cromoglycate (Nalcron) is used in food allergy;
  • Ketotifen (Zaditen);
  • Beta-blockers (adrenaline, noradrenaline, isoproterenol, terbutaline);
  • Alpha-blockers (dihydroergotamine);
  • Steroids;
  • Tranquillizers and anxiety.

Anaphylactic shock is an absolute emergency.
USE:

  • Subcutaneous injection of 0.5 to 1 ml of adrenaline hydrochloride to 1/1000;
  • Infusion of hydrocortisone;
  • Intensive Care Resuscitation;

Angioedema is a severe form (laryngeal dyspnea):
Use:

  • Subcutaneous injection of epinephrine to 1/1000;
  • Spray aerosol adrenaline (Dyspnea-inhalation);
  • Intravenous injection of dexamethasone (Soludecadron);
  • Intravenous or intramuscular injection of antihistamine (Polaramine);
